On August 26, 2024, at approximately 1:15 p.m., fire departments from Cologne, Laureldale, and Mays Landing were dispatched to the Woodlands Condominiums following a report of a gas smell. While en route, dispatch received an additional call reporting smoke in the area, prompting a structure fire response.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a vacant unit on fire on the second floor. Engine 33 from Cologne quickly pulled a hose line and efficiently extinguished the fire. Mays Landing's Engine 16 arrived shortly after and provided essential support to Engine 33.

Additional resources were called in for assistance, including an engine from Cardiff Egg Harbor Township and Airport Firefighters. Fire crews also worked diligently to ventilate the affected unit, ensuring all areas were safe before clearing the scene.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The prompt response and coordination among multiple fire departments prevented further damage and ensured the safety of the surrounding units and residents.
